Clarity Grades

Even the whitest most brilliant diamonds may have characteristics called inclusions. Clarity characteristics can be inside the diamond or on the surface. The fewer inclusions, the more valuable the diamond.

There are many types of inclusions that can affect diamond quality and value. To grade for clarity, our Gemologists and Diamond Graduates use a simple piece of hand-held equipment called a loupe that provides a 10 power magnification of a diamond.

Although diamonds can be viewed under higher magnification with special microscopes we have on-site, the clarity grade is determined only at the 10 power level. We can plot or diagram a diamond’s clarity characteristics for identification purposes.
